Watch the Wolves’ Reaction to the Lynx’s Presence!
In this intriguing observation, we document the complex interactions within the forest hierarchy. Two male lynxes frequent a specific location for marking their presence through various means - from rubbing and stomping to more direct signs like pooping and peeing. Remarkably, a pair of wolves encounter this marked spot shortly after the lynx’s visit. Their reactions are a blend of concern and caution, as they carefully inspect the area. The body language of the wolves conveys a clear message of unease, possibly even fear, in response to the lynx’s scent-marking. This video provides a rare glimpse into the subtle communications between competing predators in their natural habitat.

The unexpected thing that attracts PREDATORS: road pipe as a communication hub
Переглядів 3,4 тис.2 місяці тому
In the forest, there are some outstanding spots that attract animals just like natural lures. They come to such spots for marking and exchanging information between individuals and between species. In our case, we found an old road pipe that had been abandoned many years ago in the woods that appeared to be really popular with different species. We placed a hidden camera near a road pipe to obs...

Wildlife researchers have different experiences of their work: sometimes it’s tough, but rewarding, sometimes it’s routine, and sometimes it’s exhausting. In this video, we want to share a small piece of our own experience with you. Vadim used to work in the academic organization for many years, but then we decided to quit and move to the forest to be closer to the animals we study. This change...
When camera-trapping goes wrong: Lynx and Wolf edition
Переглядів 1,8 тис.5 місяців тому
In this video, we’re going to show you some interesting footage of lynx and wolf selfies that we got using camera-trapping. Camera-trapping is when you use cameras that turn on when they sense movement to record wildlife. We set up camera traps in the Belarusian wilderness to study large carnivores, such as the Eurasian lynx and the gray wolf. These animals are usually shy and elusive, but some...

Wild ungulates at mud baths
Переглядів 21 тис.Рік тому
Wild ungulates especially red deer and wild boars use mud baths a lot. Wallowing in mud helps animals to get rid of ectoparasites and also prevent access of blood-sucking insects. In mating season mud baths attract males of wild ungulates particularly often. They use such spots for cooling in mud to avoid body overheating. One of the frequent performances is a scent-marking and visual marking. ...

How to survive in the forest. It is best to sew a bell to your clothes. Its ringing scares away bears. And it is even better not to walk on bear trails, they can be recognized by the presence of bear droppings. It is not difficult to understand that this is a bear trail. As a rule, a bell sticks out of it.

Dont try to explain everything away. This is still human disruption. No person can say for sure that a recent is gone within exactly 7 days. Electronics even battery operated ones give off a scent, even I know that having a lame human sense of smell.

Human error/intervention likely led to this. Bears have an incredible sense of smell and humans have a very particular (strong) scent. That bear followed their scent right to that den for a five course wolf pup dinner. Leave nature alone and let things happen naturally. Funny how they just happen to set up a camera and record it all after they invaded the wolf territory. They know what they did and their excuses in the comments are a cop out.

I used to go to a forest in Nova Scotia every day or so and in winter, I'd see coyote tracks for some weeks, then they'd disappear and the round tracks of a bobcat or lynx would take their place for 2 or 3 weeks, then they'd move on and the coyote tracks would return. Nature works everything out somehow.

The human that left a scent trail to the den and then sat and filmed doing nothing are a disgrace. This isn’t nature at all. It was human interference.

Dogs/wolves seem to be built to pull things back but not push things forward very well, I just realized. LMAO I was sitting here wondering why they dig pits in the ground and not try to assemble a type of fort or something above ground but then I realized they cant really put things places beyond dropping it from their mouth, but they sure can dig and pull things backwards! 🐺

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We want to assure you that we never use bait or interfere with wildlife behavior for our videos. Our goal is to observe and learn from nature, and we always prioritize the well-being of the animals we study. The interaction you saw was a natural occurrence that we were fortunate to capture on camera. The fact that the video received so much attention was unexpected, but it has indeed helped support our ongoing studies, especially in the challenging post-COVID period.
